Events Celebrating The Platinum Jubilee weekend near Lewes and Sussex

With the Platinum Jubilee approaching, many people will be looking forward to the much deserved four-day weekend that comes with it. With the Queen celebrating 70 years on the throne, there will be a whole host of special events to mark the special occasion.


Throughout the year a variety of events will be held to mark her time on the throne with the bumper four-day weekend the icing on the cake. Many public celebrations and street parties will be held, with many national celebrations also being planned to mark the Queen's time on the throne.


Here are some events that are local to Toddlers Inn:


1. MSOPC Queens Jubilee Afternoon Tea - Thursday, June 2nd, 2022

Time: 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Venue: King Edward Hall, Lindfield, RH16 2HH

Price: Free

An afternoon tea and live music for over 60’s to celebrate the Queens platinum jubilee. Free if tickets booked by 26th May.


2. Platinum Jubilee Concert - Saturday 4th June

Time: 19:30–21:30

Venue: St Mary's Church, East Grinstead


Come and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at St Mary's Church, with an evening of patriotic music from the fantastic East Grinstead Concert Band.


3. The Big Jubilee Lunch - Sunday 5th June

Time: 10:00–17:00

Venue: National Trust - Standen House and Garden, East Grinstead


On Sunday 5 June, Standen House will be opening with free admission for all. Pack a picnic or visit the Barn Cafe and get together with friends and family to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee!


4. Kingscote Vineyard Jubilee Festival - Saturday 4th June

Time: 12:00–21:00

Venue: Kingscote Estate, East Grinstead


An all day event of fabulous wine and good old fashioned family festivities to celebrate her Majesty's momentous milestone.


Ride the stunning Bluebell Steam Train to the Kingscote Station and catch a vintage 1950's RF bus down the country lane to a wine festival and carnival day! All adult tickets include a welcome glass of Kingscote Sparkling wine and a free tour and tasting of the vineyard on the day!


The jam packed schedule of events will include free hop on vineyard tours and wine tastings, carnival games, incredible live bands, old fashioned sports day games, a family friendly dog show, the Great Kingscote Bake Off competition (so put your best sponge cake forward!), picnics and cream teas and finishing the event with dancing the night away to a fabulous live band.


5. Queen's Jubilee Champagne Afternoon Tea - Sunday 5th June

Time: 15:00

Venue: Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club


Enjoy a delightful Champagne Afternoon Tea on the lawns overlooking the lake.


The afternoon will be accompanied by live musical accompaniment from the Swing-time Sweethearts (Wartime & Swing Duo and friends of Ashdown Park), with a playlist from the coronation years to delight and entertain.


Choose from seating on the sun-trap terrace or relax on a blanket and bask in the sun with our picnic option.


Picnic Afternoon Tea: £45.00 per person.


Seated Champagne Afternoon Tea: £60.00 per person.


6. Royal Jubilee Tour - Thursday 2nd June

Time: 10:00

Venue: Bolney Wine Estate


Begin with a 45-minute guided tour of the estate, including the chance to meander through the vines and explore our state-of-the-art winery. Then, indulge in a tasting featuring a very special line up of wines and spirits. These include the first English wines to be served at Wimbledon and enjoyed in BA’s first-class lounge, Bolney’s popular Pinot Noir, and, of course, no Jubilee tasting would be complete without The Queen’s favourite tipple, Gin.


Then, enjoy a feast fit for royalty with a perfectly packed picnic to enjoy in one of the picnic areas nestled around the vines, or to take it away. Included is a bottle of Lychgate wine of your choice, and quintessential delights from classic picnic sandwiches to flavourful mini quiches & sausage rolls, and fluffy scones with indulgent cream & jam. The perfect celebration for the long weekend with friends and family in the heart of Sussex.


Lewes will also be hosting a number of events to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee!

The County Town of Sussex will begin celebrations on the evening of Thursday (June 2) - when a chain of beacons will be lit across the county starting from Windsor to mark the start of the weekend festivities. Lewes will be part of that chain with its own beacon on the hills above the town.


On Saturday (June 4) at approximately 11am a procession of local dancers from The Dance Academy of Lewes will be led by Lewes Fire Engine from County Hall arriving at the the Malling Brooks Field at midday. The Mayor of Lewes has been invited to join the procession.


When the procession arrives at the Malling Brooks Field, The Lewes Platinum Jubilee Committee have said the celebrations will commence.


Fairground rides, stalls and arena displays including a Tug of War. The Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band are booked to play in the afternoon when afternoon teas will also be available. Further entertainment will be provided on stage with live band music throughout the afternoon and into the evening.


The band line-up for the event will include local bands and also The JjARRS, Le Freak (a Tribute Band to CHIC and Nile Rogers) and The Get Back Beats.

Various Refreshment and Street Food Stalls and a Bar will be available throughout the day.

At about 10pm the music will pause, while the town witnesses an aerial firework display which will be launched from the hills above Lewes. The fireworks are being supplied by Lewes Town Council.

The evening is expected to conclude at 11pm.


The Lewes Platinum Jubilee Committee said any surplus income from the event will go to Charities.

A Souvenir Programme will be available from mid-May and the Lewes Platinum Jubilee Committee are also making available other souvenir merchandise including enamel badges, tote bags and bone china mugs.
